Greek translation has been a challenge for those who have tried to translate the language over the years.There have been several people who have translated the Greek language and there has also been discrepancies among them as to what the meaning of a given word might be. The earliest Greel language known is the Linear B script. This script is believed by some to be related to the Linear A script which was used for writing Minoan. It was also later used for Cypriot syllabary. The script is comprised of both logographic signs and syllabic. Much of it looks like the structure of the modern Japanese writing. Linear B is the oldest surviving proof of the Greek language which was known as Mycenaean. This script was used from 1500 B.C. to 1200 B.C.. This script was used on the island of Crete and also the southern part of themainland of Greece.

The Linear B script was found by archeologist Sir Arthur Evans, while excavating in Crete and on the mainland of Greece. The script was not fully deciphered until 1953. Michael Ventris and John Chadwick worked out the system. The script consisted mostly of syllabic signs and some logograms with a base 10 number system. The clay tablets they got the script from was a list of materials and goods.

The Greek alphabet consists of only 24 letters and symbols. These letters were used from the late 9th century B.C. to the early 8th century B.C.. This was the first alphabet and is unrelated to the Linear B script. The letters were also used to represent Greek numbers in the 2nd century B.C..This alphabet is the oldest in existence which is still in use today. This alphabet has had an influence on other alphabets in other countries and is also used as symbols in math and science. I is used in the naming of stars fraternities, sororities, and tropical cyclones.

The Greek alphabet surfaced several hundred years after the fall of the of the Mycenaean Civilization. And after they stopped using the Linear B script. The rise of the ancient Greece (after the fall of the Mycenaean Civilization)after the Dark Ages, brought about the appearance of the epics of Homer, which was around 800 B.C. and also the beginning of the ancient Olympic Games. The Greek alphabet consists of vowels and consonants. The consonants always had to be accompanied with the vowels to create a word. There are several different Greek dictionaries which also translate their words into English, Spanish, and other Languages. The first dictionary was believed to have been printed in 1572, in Paris, by Henricus Stephanus’s Thesaurus Graecae Linguae. There were several other editions of the Greek Dictionary printed in the 1800's.
